This project represents a fully custom-designed illuminated dome ceiling created to transform a commercial interior into a calm, open, and spiritually grounded environment. Located in Calgary, the installation was completed for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in collaboration with Remington Development and Adore Building Services.
The objective was clear: introduce a natural sky element into the space without structural skylights, while maintaining a clean, modern architectural language. The result is a seamless integration of structure, lighting, and printed stretch ceiling technology that visually opens the ceiling and changes how the entire room feels.
The idea was to create the illusion of looking up into the sky — something soft, natural, and evenly illuminated — without any visible lighting fixtures. The design needed to support both aesthetics and emotion, bringing a sense of calm and openness into a structured interior environment.
The process included structural preparation, lighting installation, and precise fitting of each membrane panel. Due to the curved geometry, every step required careful adjustment and coordination.
The dome was engineered and installed within a 9-foot ceiling, making precision and proportion critical.
The choice of a translucent acoustic-grade fabric allowed light to diffuse evenly across the surface, eliminating harsh points and creating a smooth daylight effect.
