A Stretch Ceiling Instead of Armstrong Tile
Armstrong tile ceilings are everywhere in offices, basements and commercial spaces — and they show their age. Tiles stain, sag and chip, and the grid itself dates the room. A stretch ceiling is the alternative we install most often in their place: a seamless membrane that clips into a perimeter track, with no grid and no tiles to replace.
Stretch Ceilings vs Armstrong Ceilings
1. Installation With Minimal Disruption
Stretch ceilings install below the existing ceiling, so in most cases there is no demolition and no need to tear out the old grid. Some projects are completed within one day.
2. Maintenance
There are no tiles to stain or replace. The membrane wipes clean, has no seams to crack and never needs repainting — and it carries a 10-year warranty.
3. Acoustics
For rooms where sound control matters — offices, meeting rooms, home theatres — acoustic membranes with backing can be specified into the ceiling build-up. See our commercial ceiling systems for what is available.
4. Moisture
The membrane does not absorb water, so a leak above will not leave the stained tile that gives Armstrong ceilings away. It is a practical choice for basements and other spaces where moisture is a concern.
5. Design Flexibility
Matte, satin and glossy finishes, printed visuals, backlit panels — and no visible grid breaking up the surface. The ceiling reads as one continuous plane, which changes how the whole room feels.
6. Integrated Lighting
LED profiles and light lines can be detailed into the ceiling itself rather than surface-mounted afterward — linear runs, perimeter glow or fully backlit panels.
7. Long-Term Finish
The membrane is covered by a 10-year warranty, and unlike a tile ceiling it never needs repainting. One installation, and the ceiling stays finished.
A real install: a clean white stretch ceiling going in — the same kind of ceiling that replaces a dated Armstrong tile grid.
