Most ceilings are an afterthought. A printed stretch ceiling makes the ceiling the design itself: a high-resolution visual — a sky, a night sky, a brand graphic, a mural — printed on the membrane and installed like any other stretch ceiling.
A Real Printed Ceiling: Calgary Church Dome

For a church dome in Calgary, Space Ceiling installed a printed sky visual on Ecophon translucent fabric, backlit with LEDs. A dome is demanding geometry — the membrane has to read as one continuous surface across the curve, and the print has to hold up at full scale. The translucent fabric with backlighting gives the sky an even, luminous quality that a flat print cannot match. See more of our work in the project gallery.
How Printed Stretch Ceilings Work
The visual is printed on the ceiling membrane before installation. The membrane then clips into a perimeter track on the walls — the same system as any stretch ceiling, with no demolition in most cases. For backlit designs, a translucent membrane is used with LED lighting detailed behind it, so the image glows evenly across the whole surface.
Star and Galaxy Ceilings
The most requested printed ceiling is the night sky: a deep printed visual with star points set into the membrane. It is a natural fit for home theatres, bedrooms and hospitality spaces, where the ceiling is meant to disappear into atmosphere. See galaxy ceilings for what is available.

Where Printed Ceilings Make Sense
In commercial work, a printed ceiling can carry branding, set the mood of a hospitality space, or give a large room one strong gesture instead of applied decoration. In homes, it is usually about one room: a child’s bedroom, a theatre, a space where the ceiling is allowed to be the feature. Either way, the print is part of the ceiling build-up — not something applied afterward — so it never needs repainting, and the membrane carries a 10-year warranty.
Starting a Printed Ceiling Project
Printed ceilings start with the visual and the room: the image needs enough resolution for the ceiling size, and the lighting — backlit or not — is detailed along with it. The first step is a site measurement, $150 in Calgary and $200 outside, credited in full if you proceed. Contact us or call (403) 869-9454 to talk through your project.
